My World / Your World : : 12 Month Project {Black and White}, Tucson Family Photographer

So much for my resolution to "whoa" things down a bit this year! But honestly, how could I NOT participate in such a fun and challenging project?? I'm a member of this amazing community called 4 the Love of Focus. If you haven’t heard of it, go check it out. Especially if you're a woman. And a photographer, cuz it's this incredible resource for professional women photographers. The photography superheroes over at 4TLOF came up with this awesome project to help us look beyond our shooting for others, and help us be inspired by each other and by our own lives.

My World/Your World is so fun! Photographers partner up and create images based on a designated theme. This month's theme is Black and White, and I'm so excited to have the super-amazing Evie Curley as my partner! Evie is a gifted Greensboro, NC, children's and family photographer  who specializes in natural light to create beautiful, relaxed portraits. I love her work. LOVE her work! You will too - go check our her blog and website!

Our theme this month is “black and white” and each of us had to take a photo that represents our vision of the theme. Note: you can see my first lazy interpretation here. We then share it with the world on our blog each month.

You might think that we'd choose to do a black and white image. Funny, though - we both created color images of black and white things. Evie picked her favorite Converse (and I have a pair JUST LIKE THEM -- I KNEW there was a reason I love Evie!) and I created an image of my favorite Black 'n White cupcakes! Take a peek:

Enjoy your peek at our photographic worlds - I hope you'll follow along with our project :)

PS: here's the cupcake recipe:

1 box pudding in the mix Devil's Food cake mix (hey, I didn't say it was from scratch!)
1 1/2 c water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 cup sweetened coconut flakes
1 cup mini chocolate chips
Cream cheese buttercream frosting (click for recipe!)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare cupcake pan.
Blend cake mix, water, oil, eggs,  and sour cream in large bowl until moistened. Beat with mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in coconut flakes.

Pour into prepared cupcake pan. Bake 18-22 mins. Remove from pan and cool completely on baking rack. Frost with (lots of) cream cheese buttercream frosting. Top with mini chocolate chips. Enjoy!

"What to Wear" Wednesday ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Tucson Child Photographer

"What should we wear??"  Do you have a portrait session coming up? Searched your closets high and low? Plundered your friends' closets too? I get lots and lots of questions about wardrobe - should we all match? should we all wear white? do we all have to wear jeans? what about my husband?

My answer is always "whatever you feel your best in" - but I know, that's not very helpful. Well, help is here! Once a month I'll be featuring a "What to Wear" Wednesday blog post. The idea is to give you fun, stylish, affordable and NORMAL ideas for your portraits. As you can see from this post, the idea is to coordinate and complement, but not necessarily match.  Happy Wednesday (and happy shopping?)!

52 Faces ~ Project 365 Tucson Photographer

Wanna make a photographer uncomfortable? Put her IN FRONT of the camera.
Wanna make her REALLY uncomfortable? Tell her she has to take a self-portrait.

Part of the purpose of this whole Project 365 thing is to challenge myself...to get out of my comfort zone. Yeah, ok. I'm out. WAAAAAAAAAY out. I sooooo do not like pictures of myself. And I sooooo  do not like sharing them. On the internet. With the whole world to see.  But I'm committed to this project, and part of it is to take 1 self portrait a week. Here it is. I hope this gets easier.

Beautiful Photographer

Best Face Photo of 2010 ~ I Heart Faces Photo Challenge - Tucson Child Photographer

One of my favorite blogs, I Heart Faces, is kicking off the New Year with a "Best Face Photo of 2010" photo challenge. I've never, ever entered anything like this, but I have photographed so many amazing faces this last year that I am feeling compelled to enter.

The hard part - choosing ONE face. Yes, ONE :(

I had no idea which image to enter, and with so many favorites, it's taken me three hours to make a decision.  And I still couldn't choose, really, I just kind of went "eeny meeny miney moe - that one!"  But here is my entry - little miss Riley. My camera just loves those dimples and those curls - and so do I!

Project 365 ~ My Life in Pictures - Tucson Photographer

One of my resolutions for 2011 is to slooooow down. Seriously, my life gets crazy. In fact, it gets so crazy that the little things often get overlooked. I get so focused on making sure that all the big things work that so many amazing, little bits of life go unnoticed. This year, I'm taking back my life :) And to keep me honest and on track, I'm starting Project 365.
What's a Project 365, you ask?
It's a way to make sure I "whoa" things down a bit and stay focused on what's important. Last year I realized I had ZERO pictures of my family. I was so busy making sure all of my wonderful clients and friends had the important moments captured, that most of my own simply slipped away.  Don't get me wrong - I love love love being able to do this for y'all. From the bottom of my heart, I do. But my life got so busy that I forgot to take pictures of the everyday stuff in my OWN life.
Project 365 is simply this: take one (personal) photo a day, and share them here, on my blog.
Some days I  might take more than one, some days I might forget and not take any, but I WILL TAKE PHOTOS OF MY LIFE. Ya hear that self??  I am not going to get stressed out if I miss a day, cuz this is my project and therefore I make the rules :)  I hope you'll follow along, and maybe even start your own project. Won't it be fun to look back and see a year in pictures??
Here goes with Day 1 and Day 2 pictures from our New Year's trip to Lake Powell. Enjoy!
