Yep –my heart’s been stolen. It’s gone. And I have pretty good idea of where it went. Well, if I am to be completely honest here, my heart gets stolen at least once a week. I think that’s just the downside to being a family photographer for Tucson’s most gorgeous people. I’ve been remiss at blogging the gorgeous families, big kids and little kids I photographed last fall – the end of the year got a little bit crazy and then, well, I took a little time off to love up on my own family a little bit, and just enjoy some holiday hustle and bustle. I’m doing some catching up, and oh goodness, do I have some pretty faces to share with you over the next few weeks!

Meet the latest little culprit, Miles.

Seriously, that shaggy blond hair and those big brown eyes could be weapons of mass destruction, I tell you!

This was my second year photographing Mr. Miles and his family, and it was so much fun! We spent a warm, sunny, Tucson fall afternoon at Agua Caliente park – kicking soccer balls, digging in the dirt, blowing on dandelions, watching the ducks, playing with rocks – you know, doing important guy stuff.

One of the things I love most about family sessions and photographing families with little kids is that our session time is often unscripted. It’s more like a fun get together where we can laugh and play, and capture some giggles and grins in between. And some frowns and funny faces too – sometimes those expressions just steal the show.

I always try to work in some “posed” shots, but even those are relaxed and natural. I love these family images of Hannah and Chris and Miles.

I love that we captured images of a super fun time in their life, and I love that we were able to document sweet Mr. Miles’ wonder and excitement at everything from the green grass, to his soccer ball, to getting a cold drink from the drinking fountain (I agree, Miles, there’s nothing better!)

I think this is one of my top 5 favorite family photo sessions this year! And with these adorable kiddos, how could it not be? This family is so special to me - they came to me last year for family photos, and I've been in love ever since. I was so excited when Michelle contacted me again this year to do her family photos -- and, not gonna lie, was a bit over the moon when she said she wanted to book TWO sessions: one for her side of the family, and one for her husband's side of the family. I LOVE that Michelle's family -- all of them--wanted family photos, and I love that Michelle loved me enough to pick me to do them!

This year, I got to meet Michelle's whole family! Her parents, and her brother and his wife, too. It was so much fun for me to be able to work with the extended family, and to see how much lovin' and likin' there was going on!

As you can tell from the gorgeous colors, Michelle put a lot of thought into coordinating wardrobe ideas for the whole family, and I think she did a fantastic job. All of the little details (necklaces, hair pretties, belts, layers, accessories) make such a big impact in the finished photo -- they just add that extra little bit of "oh, wow". A super "What to Wear example", and you'll defnitely be seeing some of their photos in the new, printed, What to Wear Style Guide we have in the works for 2012.

Nicholas and Annya have grown so much from last year, and they were so much fun. I especially loved how “motherly” Annya was to her baby brother. She would take him by the hand and help him get to where he needed to be, help him "pose" and coax him to smile. So precious.

These two kiddos tromped through the tall grass, played together and were so sweet with their grandparents. There is just whole lotta love in this family!!

One of my favorite aspects of this family photo session is that we were able to capture all of the family here, together, and also in smaller groups. There's never any limit to the number of poses you can have in your session, and I always encourage my clients to mix it up, and make sure that all that family love is captured so it can be treasured for years to come! There is something just so special about getting a portrait of your whole family together. In fact, we have a 3 generation photo to remember the day by! How sweet is this photo of Michelle, Annya and Michelle's mom?

We picked a new location for their photos this year, and brought out the fabulous green chaise -- it was perfect for this family session!! Annya REALLY liked the chaise! At one point, she even sat down on the couch and posed for a picture all by herself! Seriously - could Annya be any cuter?? She's the perfect diva here.

Sweet Nicholas was soooo funny. He wasn't quiter sure what to make of that big ol' camera lens, and it's time like these that I really think we should have taken some behind the scenes pictures of the whole family and my assistant, Callie, lined up behind me trying to get Nicholas to smile and look at the camera. I’m sure anyone driving by must have thought we had all completely lost it! I didn’t see what they were doing exactly behind me, but there was a lot of jumping up and down, clapping hands, singing, peek-a-boo and fake sneezing for sure!

He was a good little sport…well, until he decided he was done! Look at that little pout? LOVE IT.

Wow, I truly cannot thank Michelle and her precious family enough for choosing me again to capture their family memories!

I mean it when I say that I truly have left a part of my heart in these photographs. I’ve fallen in love with this family all over again and it was so special for me to be able to see Michelle’s “roots” and where she gets her beautiful, sweet, generous, and loving spirit!

Meet the Callahan family!

The Callahan family and I ventured downtown near the Old Town Artisans area for their photo session. I love it when families choose downtown locations for their photos - there's so much variety, and no two sessions are ever the same, even when the locations are similar. And this area - well, it's always been one of my favorite locations. I love the old pueblo feel, and how bright and fun it is.

Tiffany and her handsome guys were such fun - the boys had me laughing plenty, and there were no shortage of smiles from these guys. Max and Carter were complete naturals! Carter started off a teeny bit shy, but he sure warmed up to the camera real quick. Max, well - check out that little guy's smile. Total cuteness right there. What isn’t to love about these two adorable boys?

Just look at Carter, rockin' the camera! Aren't those blue eyes gorgeous?!?

Fun Family Photos, and Some Furry Friends! ~ Family Photos with Pets | Family Photographer in Tucson | Outdoor Family Photos in Tucson, AZ

This year has been so much fun, for so many reasons! One of my favorite things about all my family photo sessions here in Tucson has been all of the furry friends included in family photos. It seems like there are an extra abundance this year, and I’m in heaven! I absolutely LOVE seeing furry friends through my camera lens. These special “kids” are just cute, cute, CUTE!

Meet the Holt family! Sarah and Dustyn brought their three babies for their family photo this year, and I loved getting to know them all.

There's Dustyn and Sarah, of course (Dusytn works with my friend Traci, who also had their family photo with their pets this year -- hi, Traci!!). And then there's Dustyn's buddy Haggard (a German Shepherd/Basset Hound mix with a Mohawk!!), sweet Zoe (a Corgi) and awesomeJake (a mixed bread beauty). How gorgeous are they! I think the pups had a good time, too. We had our session at Reid Park, and there were lots of interesting things for them to sniff out. Of course, getting three dogs and their humans all looking at the camera takes a bit of work (hats off to you, pet photographers!!!) but it’s so much fun making it all happen. Sarah called me the Dog Whisperer, haha. I'm not really, sometimes I just get lucky. But I DO love them, and I think they sense that.

Like with all sessions, my absolute favorite pictures, though, are the candid moments in between the “formal” portraits. They are absolutely priceless, and I love to capture all of the wet, slobbery puppy kisses and cuddles happening behind the scenes, too.

I love how much Sarah and Dustyn love their dogs - you can totally tell that Haggard, Zoe and Jake dig Sarah and Dustyn too.

I think it is just as important to capture memories with our pets as it is with our two legged family members. With that being said, thank you, Sarah and Dustyn, for allowing me to capture those special moments with your pooches. I hope that you’ll be able to look at these pictures years to come and remember our wonderful afternoon!

Oh my goodness - I am positively giddy over this family!

First of all, these beautiful people were referred to me from another beautiful person I know (hi, Susie!!!), which always makes my heart happy. Second of all, well, just look at Laci!! She's not only gorgeous on the outside, but she's amazingly beautiful on the inside too, and that's what you notice about her, the first thing. She just sparkles :)

Before I say much more, I have to first say that I love this family's wardrobe! Laci asked for a few "what to wear" pointers, and then put these great outfits together all by herself. Don't they look amazing?? I love all the textures and layers, and how everything just works together without being all matchy matchy. And the red shoes?? Shut the front door!! I am in looooove with those red Converse. Please, Santa...if you're listening and I'm not on the Naughty List (again) this year...I really want a pair! And if I AM on the Naughty List, then by all means, go ahead and bring me the RED HEELS (wink wink)!!

Laci wanted something fun and upbeat for her family photos and she picked the perfect location! The vibrant colors and style were perfect for this fun family, and kept the boys from being too bored with the torture of family photos :) Wyatt and Tyler are cute as can be and I'm pretty sure they keep this busy momma on her toes.

Little Wyatt wasn't so sure he liked the whole supermodel gig, but let me tell you, the camera was lovin' him! He was so funny and so cute, and he definitely had his own style in mind when it came to posing. We eventually compromised: we'd do a few of his poses, and then I'd sneak in a couple of my own.

Tyler, on the other hand, was totally comfortable in front of the camera from the get-go. And those big brown eyes had me from moment #1.

We had such a good time, strolling through the Barrio - I don't think Laci and I ever stopped talking for more than, ohhhh, 5 seconds, or maybe just long enough to smile and click. Best part of this session, besides making new friends? Finding a Ben's Bell!!! This was such a treat!! We weren't quite sure if it was left for someone to find, or if it had actually been found and belonged to someone already, so we left it where it was, just in case. But that was pretty exciting for all of us! The Ben's Bell is hanging from the mailbox -- see it??

Oh, and get a load of Wyatt's feet -- a perfect example of his creative posing :)

PS - I loooooove how Laci's Christmas card turned out -- so I had to post a peek of the proof file, now that she's mailed them out :) We printed Laci's cards on a 5x7 boutique card with scalloped edges and a pearl finish. They are positively gorgeous!!!

Her Silly Sweet Tooth ~ Christmas Cookie Deliciousness | Chistmas Cookie Recipes, Delicious Cookie Recipes, Tucson Family Photographer

Every year around the holidays, I get this overwhelming urge to bake: breads, cakes, desserts, fudge, pies, cookies…you name it. I have a staggering collection of those little cook booklets that are ingeniously placed at the checkout in the grocery stores. You know the ones, from Pillsbury Bake-Off, Betty Crocker, 1001 Christmas Cookies. Mmhhmmm. Those.

So, I pick my favorites: the most elaborate, beautiful, complicated recipes, make my ingredient lists, come home…and never make a darned thing. My problem? I suck a baking. There. I said it. It’s out in the open and now y’all know it.

But I know someone who totally does not suck at baking. In fact, she’s pretty danged (word??) awesome at it. AND, not only does her stuff taste good, it looks pretty! This would be my cousin, Melissa. And, lucky for us, she’s started blogging lots of her recipes!

Melissa is completely self taught through, as she says, trial and much error. I can attest to that…as kids, I do believe there were some fried oatmeal cookies (hey, what do you do when the oven is broken??) and some tuna fish mixed with peanut butter. DON’T JUDGE! We were 8 years old. There was no mayo. We all recovered quite nicely, thank you. Fast forward many years, and her Christmas Cookies look like masterpieces, and mine, well...they look more like Halloween cookies.

Anyway, I am super happy to share Melissa’s blog with you. I think you’ll love it. She shares her failures as well as successes, and she totally has it in for Martha Stewart’s recipes (and she tells you why they don’t work!).

Here’s a little bit of background from Melissa, about her blog, Silly Sweet Tooth, that she says is a silly little blog that satisfies her sweet tooth and need to brag.

"Very simply, for no real reason, I have challenged myself to make a batch of homemade cookies every day from now (November 12^th), until Christmas. Jedi & His Family ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Fun Family Photos, Oro Valley Family Photographer

Oh, boy. Take three gorgeous, amazing, wonderful people, a 150+ lb English Mastiff, and a fabulous green chaise, mix it with a beautiful fall day in Tucson, AZ, and what do you get? A super fun family photo session, and a lot of attention!

Meet the Daniels family – Tupper, Joanna and Tristan. And Jedi, the family dog. I have to confess, these are probably 3 of my most favorite people. Joanna and Tupper are fellow swim parents, and Tristan is an awesome swimmer (seriously, this kid has some skills). They are such a fun, active, happy family, and being around them always makes me smile! Especially when we do Swim Mom happy hour :)

And Jedi? Well, he’s pretty much a rockstar. This sofa looks like it was made just for him, but honestly, we had to coax him up onto it (he's not usually allowed on the furniture). But once he figured out it was ok, he settled right in :)

Joanna and Tupper picked Agua Caliente Park for their family photo session and it was a great choice! It’s close to their home and a perfect place for Jedi –this big boy needs some room to roam! I’m no stranger to stares (Uuhhh, yeah. Many of you have seen this spectacle before: me shakin' my groove thing to get my littlest clients' attention. Sometimes it takes a lot of work and some goofy faces and sounds to get a little one to even face the camera!) but I have to tell you – we got a lot of looks during our session. I mean, for starters, how many people do you see hauling a 5 ft chaise sofa out to the park? And then adding Jedi to the mix, well, let’s just say we got a lot of people’s attention.

It was so much fun to photograph this family – just about my favorite session ever. Joanna, Tupper and Tristan have such a great family dynamic, and it’s wonderful to see the closeness between them. Jedi loves them too – can you tell?

Season of Giving ~ Tucson Photographer, Giving to Your Community, Helping Others in Tucson, AZ

This Tucson family photographer has some beautiful faces coming your way! I am wrapping up my holiday photography season and it has been sooo much fun getting to see all of your smiling faces through my camera these past few months. Miss Mattie ~ Oro Valley Family Photos, Family Photographer for Oro Valley, Tucson Family Photographer

Oh my gosh, this face. This beautiful, sweet, face. I love it so much! Mattie is the daughter of our friends, Lisa and Leon, and I have been blessed to photograph her and her family for the past three years. Watching my little clients grow is one of the best parts of being a family photographer. I love to see my families year after year, and to be able to capture all of those magical moments and new and fun things that are happening with them.

It’s been so much fun watching Miss Mattie grow. When we got together for their family photo session this year, I was just amazed at how much she had changed since our last session! Isn’t it just like magic, when they go from that babyish stage to big kid stage? Amazing to me. My husband always says “the days are long, but the years are short”, and he’s so right!

One of the best things about being a family photographer in Tucson, AZ, is our weather! We are blessed with beautiful, warm weather for most of our Fall season, which makes it perfect for outdoor family photo sessions! Over the past couple of years, Lisa and Leon have picked some really fun spots for our sessions: Tohono Chul Park, Pima Canyon, and this year, their own home and backyard. I love to capture families in their own home – it just makes their photos so much more personal and special! This year, we also had two new additions to our session! The puppies joined us for a few shots, and oh, aren’t they CUTE??? It’s always fun to have a new addition to the family!

We finished up our session at a neighborhood park – just as the sprinklers came on! Seriously, I seem to attract the onset of sprinklers (we won’t mention the Brandi Fenton Park debacle again). We had lots of fun there, watching Mattie show off her new found cartwheel skills, and enjoying the green, green grass (always a novelty here in Tucson!). Mattie and I went barefoot, and I can’t think of a better way to wrap up session!

Thank you sooo much Lisa and Leon. It truly has been my honor to be your family photographer these past three year! I look forward to our sessions so much!

DOGgone Fun! ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Family Photos with Pets, Sahuarita Photographer

Some of my favorite family photography sessions are the ones where my clients include their pets. We have 2 giant knuckle head dogs in our family, and well, it’s like having two more kids. Yes, they’re furry and shed like crazy. And rambunctious. And one snores. LOUD. But we love them so much and can’t imagine not having them in our lives. So I’m never surprised when my clients ask if they can include their fur babies in their family photos. Oh, and by the way -- there’s never an extra fee to include them in your photo session.

I love that my friend Traci and her husband, Michael, (hellooooo newlyweds!!) always include Oscar, Tango and Mimi in their family photos! Traci calls it their crazy dog farm, and well, it can get a little hairy (no pun intended!) with 3 dogs in the session, but it is so.much.fun. I did Traci and Michael’s family photos last fall –you might recognize them on the blog header—and when we met up in downtown Tucson this year for their session, Oscar, Tango and Mimi greeted me like an old friend!

I have to say that even though Traci calls them crazy, these pups were so, so, so good. I loved that Traci and Michael brought them water, and treats for good behavior. And I loved how much Traci and Michael love their dogs! It’s pretty obvious that Oscar, Tango and Mimi feel the same way!

Katelyn ~ University of Arizona | Senior Pictures, Tucson AZ

I love senior photography sessions – especially when it’s a University of Arizona senior session! College seniors are so much fun to work with, and just a little bit different than a high school senior photography session. College seniors are just a little bit older, obviously, and having spent 4 years gaining a little independence and worldly experience, they’re ready to take on the world! I love hearing all about their UofA experiences, especially when they’re from out of state, and the desert and Tucson is a bit of a culture shock for them.

Katelyn is a southern California girl but she’s a pretty big fan of Tucson and her UofA Wildcats! And, I have to confess – during our session, I became a pretty big fan of Katelyn! This smart cookie is a Physiology and Chemistry Major and is graduating from the UofA this December. After that? Well, she plans to head off to medical school next year! She said she wants to practice emergency room medicine, as an ER doctor. She loves working as an EMT and that would pretty much be a perfect fit for her. How cool is that? Can’t you just hear it now: Paging Dr. Kassarjian…Dr. Kassarjian to the ER, STAT.” Okay, maaaybe I’ve watched a few too many TV shows (anyone remember “Emergency”?? from way back? LOVED THAT SHOW!)

Anyway, Katelyn was such a complete and total pleasure to work with! She is smart and funny, and a gorgeous natural beauty! She didn’t want anything fancy for her session, just something to capture a little bit of the University of Arizona, and a few cap and gown shots, too. We chatted lots, and laughed lots, and I got to hear about how she loves wake boarding and traveling (she’s been to over 40 countries at the ripe ol’ age of 23!), and spending time with her family. And Starbucks – she’s a coffee girl, too! I loved her casual, feminine style and the way she totally ROCKS a pair of boots and jeans!! Oh, and did I mention that she wanted to do this session as a gift to her parents?? Seriously. A nice girl.

Katelyn will be moving to Dallas in December, to join her parents and most likely attend medical school there (hello, great shopping!). I am so excited for her, and quite honestly, the rest of the world, too, because I have no doubt the future Dr. Kassarjian will do great things. Best of luck to you, Katelyn – and the risk of sounding “old” and mom-ish, the world is your oyster, sugar…

This time of year is always crazy busy. Being a child and family photographer here in Tucson, our weather is so great this time of year, that September - November seems to be the perfect time to have your holiday photo session. This family photographer has been busy busy busy (thank you, thank you, thank you!). I have to confess, though, that it's pretty much my favorite time of year. Not only because I get to see sooo many of your smiling faces for your family holiday photo session, but also because I get to see so many of my favorite locations in Tucson, too. The only part that makes me sad is that I can’t share too many sneak peeks with everyone else (gotta keep those Christmas cards and presents a secret!).

It’s finally fall/winter here in the desert! There is a crispness in the air. The nights are cool. I have a cold (just wanted to toss that in there). It’s the time of year that I love to snuggle up on the couch with a blanket, a good book and a great cuppa coffee. Ahhh…heaven.

The thing I love the most about this collection is how everyone is wearing something so drastically different yet it is all tied together by the color palette. Mom’s beautiful dress with wrap around belt. The girls are dressed in pink layered type shirts adding depth and texture. I especially love the little details of the flowers and rhinestones on the girls’ shirts.

Dad and younger brother are sporting sweaters with great texture and paired with a good pair of jeans. I LOVE jeans in family photos because they add that casual, natural look to the family photo. Older brother is working the layers with a great plaid jacket emphasizing the yellow in Mom’s dress. You'd never guess that little bit of yellow would work here, but doesn't it just give the perfect amount of vibrant color? Everyone has a great pair of shoes to finish off the look as well. I seriously want some of those pink ballet slippers! And notice that no one is breaking the cardinal rule of NO ATHLETIC SNEAKERS :)

That’s it for now. Get out there and enjoy that beautiful winter weather we are having here in Tucson. Spend that extra time with the family and cherish each moment you have together! I am so blessed to be able to capture some of those moments for you!

Being a family photographer here in Tucson, you'd think that the city is so big, with about a million people in it, but really, it's amazingly small, and I just love that! Remember awhile back how I was talking about what a compliment it is for me as your family photographer to be referred to your friends and family? Honestly, there's just about no better feeling than to have my clients refer their loved ones to me for their family portraits! And well…just imagine how I feel when a referral refers another friend or family member?!? EEEEEEEEEEK!! It just so happens I had that very thing happen recently!

Meet Julia and Luis and their beautiful girls! Serious gorgeousness alert here! Look at all of these beauties! Amazing eyes and smiles, every one!

Julia was referred to me by Yvonne, the mom of this little cutie and Yvonne was referred to me by Andrea. Talk about color my heart happy! Getting to meet sooo many wonderful people because others were happy with my work. Humbling…very humbling.

Not only are these girls gorgeous, they are also very sweet, sweet girls! I was super excited when we met for a consultation before her photo session - I mean, what family photographer wouldn't be excited at a chance to photograph all those cute girls! Best of all, Julia let me know that she wanted to make sure the family dog, Scarlett, was included. I am always so excited when people want to include their fur babies in their family photos!

This was such a fun family session at their home. I LOVE doing sessions at people's homes -- it makes the images that much more special and personal when they're framed and hanging on their walls! I’ll be meeting with Julia soon to design a portrait gallery for their walls! I’m sooo excited to help her to plan the perfect display for their home. It’s so fun to see a client soooo happy with their images that they want to display them for the whole world to see. (Pssst - a design consultation is complimentary when you book your sesssion!)

Fun Family Photos! ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Oro Valley Family Photographer

Some of my favorite family photo sessions are the ones I leave with my stomach hurting from laughing. Yep, this was one of those shoots! Still not sure if I can really call this whole Tucson Family Photographer gig a job…I have sooo much fun at all my sessions, and especially this one!

Meet the Lipphardt family - Ryan, Tonya, Richelle and Ty (or Little Brian Flanagan, as his Auntie calls him!).

Tonya is my best friend’s sister! Isn't she stunning?? She received a gift certificate for a session and prints at her baby shower for Ty, and we were finally able to get our session scheduled! This is such a sweet family, and it was even more special that it was my BFF’s Margo's sister. Tonya and Margo are so much alike - they both crack me up, so you can imagine there was lots of laughing going on here!

We laughed the most when Richelle was holding court. She was so so funny. I would say, "show me your special smile" And she would. And then I would say, "show me your smile for Auntie Margo", and we could get a different smile. And so on and so on for all of her family members. Yep, she’s totally Tonya's little mini me, for sure. Loved this little sassy attitude!

Baby Ty was sooo cute with his red hair and funny faces! He wasn't too sure about the lady with the camera, OR that green stuff he was sitting on (the grass…such an elusive creature in these parts). We managed to capture lots of silly faces and even a smile here and there!

His Auntie Margo calls him "little Brian Flanagan" due to his red hair. She says he looks like a little Irishman :)

And Ryan, well, not gonna lie, most Dads are not so much into the whole family photo scene, but I think Tonya might have bribed him. He didn't even complain one tiny bit when I had him and Tonya smooch it up (wink wink!).

Tonya and Ryan, I had such a great time hanging out with you guys! The kiddos are getting so big and so beautiful. I wish you much love and happiness!

Oh my goodness, I’m excited!! Like, really excited!

Picture Perfect ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Oro Valley Family Photographer, Vail Family Photographer

I know, I know, this little tune I've been singing just might be stuck on repeat. But you know how I am always saying I have the B-E-S-T, picture perfect photography clients here in Tucson (and Oro Valley, and Vail, and Marana, and pretty much the whole entire world)? Well, I can prove it!

Not only do my photography clients trust me to take their family pictures each year, they recommend me to their friends! I LOVE having my clients refer their friends and family to me for their family photos, or their kids' senior pictures! It always makes me feel soooo incredible. Not only that, but I also know that if I have a new family being referred to me by one of my current clients, I am in for a treat because they will be just as fabulous!!!

Meet the Callahan family. They were sent my way by a couple of my favorite people, Mary Smith and Jodi Kelloff. Mary's girls are adorable little blondies, and Jodi's baby Harry, is precious with the most contagious grin ever! You can find photos from their sessions in the Families and Little Kids galleries here on the blog.

I just LOVED my session this family, for lots of reasons, and as referrals from Jodi and Mary, I should have known they'd be the awesomesauce!

First off, can I just say they came to the session with the most fabulous wardrobe ever! I honestly couldn’t have dressed them any better myself! They are the picture perfect example of what to wear to your next family session. Everything from the textures in the dresses to the coordinating colors to the amazing accessories. And oh yeah, let’s not forget the boots! I know for a fact their session inspired at least two boot purchases from my Facebook followers! :) And notice too, no sneakers/gym shoes for the guys? BIG WIN HERE!

This was such a fun family photo session for me, for lots of reasons. The Callahans had never been to Agua Caliente Park before, and the kiddos enjoyed the lake and dandelions, and seeing turtles. But especially because Jaclyn mentioned they hadn't done any "real" family photos in way too long.

Emery and Brady were perfectly adorable and I just love how Emery chatted me up the whole entire time, telling me all about her dancing and swimming lessons, and her teachers' names at pre-school. She is such a little character. This little cupcake is going to do BIG things in life!

And then there was little Brady. Oh so precious. Brady’s nickname was Brady Bug. He was all smiles and big blue eyes.

We met at Agua Caliente Park, which is such a great location for families. There is such a variety of spots to choose from, including the dirt road Brady was so fond of! :) This was his favorite spot during the session, where he could find rocks, and sticks, and leaves, and dirt clods :) All boy, that one!

Jaclyn, thank you so much for trusting me with your family treasures! It was wonderful working with you, and your beautiful family!

Thanks again Mary and Jodi for introducing me to this amazing family! I love that you love me enough to refer me to your loved ones! Notice all that love goin' on ??? :)

Autumn is my favorite season EVER. It is kind of ironic that I would move to a place that doesn’t really even have the season, but nonetheless this is my favorite time of year. It is finally starting to cool down at night here in Tucson, and there is crispness in the air. It is the season for chili and baking. I actually baked pumpkin bread for the first time this season last week. The holidays are just around the corner, which means lots of family time and shopping! AAAAAND, I actually went out and bought my first pair of cowboy boots yesterday! (Thank heavens for Mommy days and shopping without kids!)

While you are out shopping for that perfect holiday gift for your husband (or wife), take a look at all the fun clothes they have out this season! You find something that's perfect for get togethers, football games, plus, it’s a great time to start planning the perfect outfit for your family’s portrait session! There are so many fun things you can do with your clothes for family portraits during the cooler months. Think layers - vests, blazers, cardigans…fun boots and sweaters!

I am pretty sure I say this for EVERY What to Wear blog I write, but I LOVE the color combination here. The earthy tones with the pop of blue are gorgeous. Notice how versatile denim is - you can make the look casual and comfortable, but adding sweaters and button down shirts dress it up just a bit. I LOVE the sweaters for Mom and older sister. The weave and ruffles, not to mention the cutesy flowers, add an extra interest to the clothes. Throw in a denim jacket or a t-shirt under your sweater to add in some layers, and voila! Fall wardrobe perfection that's not overdressed or overdone - and it's a look you could probably pull together from what's in your closet already!

Honoring America's Bravest ~ Vail Family Photographer, Tucson Family Photographer, Oro Valley Family Photographer

One of my absolute joys as a family photographer here in Tucson is volunteering my time and sharing my photography. It truly makes my heart happy to GIVE smiles, instead of always capturing them ;) So many times I've heard others say they simply don't have time to volunteer, and comment that I'm over-extending myself by volunteering, but to be honest, I think I gain more than I actually give!

There are so many people who give so selflessly to make the lives we live here in America possible. They sacrifice so much so that we can be safe and live as comfortably as we do. And if I can find a couple of hours to show my appreciation, and give a little something in return, I'm absolutely going to do it!

Last month I was invited to participate in an event honoring some of our local firefighters and to show our appreciation for all that they do for us and the community, and also to honor America’s bravest who lost their lives in the attacks on 9/11/01. I was so honored to be part of an amazing group of Tucson photographers who spent the day with our Rincon Valley firefighters, providing them and their families with a complimentary photo session and printed portraits to thank them all they do!

On September 10^th, I joined three other local photographers (Ashlie Hilton, of Ash Photography; Reyna Peery of Reyna's Photography, and my sweet friend Jessica Harris of Chirpy D Photography)at the Rincon Fire Station in Vail.

We spent the day photographing some truly amazing individuals who risk their lives day in and day out for our community. It was so fun getting to meet their families!

We even had a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog!

And, not gonna lie, seeing all those bright, shiny red fire trucks was pretty awesome too!

A special thank you to all the men and woman who serve so sacrificially to protect our freedoms! Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. And a great big bear hug to Reyna for organizing this amazing event, and for inviting me to participate!

Boomer Sooners & Baby Steps ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Tucson Baby Photographer, Family Portraits in Tucson, AZ

I know I say this about EVERY family I photograph here in Tucson, but I just love, love, LOVE this family! It's true, and well, honestly, I can’t help but love all the faces I photograph. I mean, photographing such fabulous people?!? Doesn't get much better, and it sure doesn't get much more fun than my session with the Jester family!

I first met Roz and Ty when their daughter Riley was in daycare with my friend Jenny. I took one look at those green eyes and blond curls and knew I had to photograph her! And Riley's Momma? Well, she's one of those people you just KNOW you want to be friends with. And we are. And it's awesome! The rest is pretty much history, and Miss Riley has since modeled for my workshops and mentor sessions. In fact, you might just recognize her adorable face and big whirlypop on my marketing materials and Facebook profile every now and then.

This firecracker cracks me up because, as little as she is, she knows exactly how I want her to pose, and will quickly remind me if we haven't gone thru all of our poses ;) Gotta love a girl who isn’t afraid to speak up...just one of the many reasons I adore Miss Riley! She has such a BIG personality for a little one and has a style all her own! I mean, really, look at those shoes! Hot pink Converse high tops with sparkles?? Hmmm…wonder if they come in my size?

You can probably tell that this family are staunch Oklahoma U fans and I was lovin' that they showed up in full regalia! I DID make the unfortunate mistake of asking if OU were Cowboys or Sooners - and was quickly set straight ;) SOONERS IT IS! This session was especially fun because Roz's grandfather was visiting, along with her Mom. So it was quite a treat to be able capture a family photograph with 4 generations.

I just love this photo of Riley and Evan with their great-grandpa - look at Grandpa's happy smile!

Riley's baby brother, Evan arrived last year, and I was thrilled to do a newborn photography session and document his first few days in the world. Hard to believe that little newborn is now a year old! One of the best parts of being a family photographer here in Tucson is that I get a chance to watch my families grow. This session was actually sweet Evan's 1 year session and it was fun to see how big this little guy is!

What a cutie!

He's still learning to walk and we got some super cute shots of him toddling about...

I especially love his end zone dance! No way you'd wanna penalize this little guy 10 yards for excessive celebration ;)

Thanks Jester family for allowing me the honor of photographing your family yet again! You make my heart happy, and I hope you love your photos as much as I loved taking them. Go Sooners!

Dancers and Gymnasts and Pilots, Oh My! ~ Oro Valley Family Photographer, Tucson Family Photos, Tucson Photographer

You all know how crazy busy my schedule can be sometimes (okay, most of the time)…between my day job, playing swim taxi to two future Michael Phelps types, and being photographer to Tucson's most amazing and gorgeous kids, families and high school seniors, I am a busy busy momma. When you combine that schedule with the schedule of a military family with a daughter in ballet and a daughter in gymnastics, scheduling a family session can be a little bit tricky, but with a little bit of luck and a whole lot of prayer, Lara Bands and I made it work. Wooo hooo!! At the end of September, I was finally able to catch up with the Bands family at one of my favorite spots for family portrait sessions here in Tucson.

I first heard about this incredible family through my Creative Director/Girl Wonder, Callie. Callie had been a part of the Bands’ home church for several years and kept telling me about how much she just loved them and how it had been awhile since they’d had family portraits taken. Fast forward a bit and I received an inquiry from Lara (Mom) saying she’d love to do a family session before her husband, James, left for Afghanistan for a year. Well, you all know how I feel about our military and their families, so with a little bit of juggling and some creative scheduling, we squeezed in an afternoon session.

And I am soooo happy we found an hour to do this! I had the best time with this fun family! I loved hearing about the girls' dancing and gymnastics, and even managed to catch a peek of Anna doing cartwheels while I was photographing her sister. I loved seeing Mom's face light up when she's with her girls. AND, it took a little bit of work, but I even managed to get a smile or two out of James! I didn't even have to tell my awesome knock-knock jokes!

One of the things I loved is how Lara had coordinated their outfits with great color and texture, and no one was matchy-matchy. Even James was able to wear something that looked great and was still comfortable. Although I DID ask if he wanted to wear his flight suit ;)

Just look at how cute these girls are - see the textures and simple little accessories (LOVE Devon’s flower hair clip) and that pop of purple (which happens to be my favorite color). The ruffles and flowers on Devon's top are the perfect feminine touch. And I am already stalking Dillards deparment store for my own top.

Thanks for spending the afternoon with me, Bands Family, and thank you for all you do to protect our freedoms! I truly am grateful!

Stuffed Mushroom Deliciousness [Recipe Share] ~ Tucson Family Photographer

Hi, everyone! I think you can see a pattern here. My assistant, Callie, has the best recipes, and I am living vicariously through her blog posts :) Here's another fun recipe share from the Hobeck Family favorites list. Warning - these are completely, totally, yummy!

As many of you know, we’re a military family. My husband is currently overseas…again. While I should really be exercising and eating healthy while he’s gone in an attempt to lose this extra “baby weight” (can you still call it that when your “baby” is 18 months?!?!). However, I find comfort foods are much more appealing right now. Thus, this blog post! One of these days, I promise to write a post about something healthy…just not today.

One of the great things about being a military family is all the people you get to meet along the way. About a year after I moved down here to Tucson, I met a lady who just happened to be pregnant the same time I was pregnant with our first son. We instantly hit it off and have been fast friends since…despite the fact that she left us to go to Colorado (how dare her husband get re-stationed!). During this time, she would always bring the most delicious appetizers to all of our functions…stuffed mushrooms! They were always the hit of the party!

So, with the weekend at hand and lots of holiday fun on the horizon, I present to you…

Bonnie’s Stuffed Mushrooms

16 oz whole white mushrooms (take out stem, but save)

4 oz cream cheese (at room temperature)

8 oz sausage (I use, the regular Jimmy Dean sausage, but any sausage will do)

¼ cup beef broth

Brown the sausage and drain excess grease. Chop the stems of the mushrooms. Mix sausage and chopped mushroom stems together with the cream cheese and 1/8 cup broth. Spoon the mixture into the mushroom caps. Place filled mushroom caps into a 9x13 baking dish. Add another 1/8 cup broth to the bottom of pan. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes.

Note: The filling is delicious! I often will double the recipe for the filling and then use it as the filling in an omelets. I’ve been known to eat it as a type of dip on tortilla chips too. Yum!

These are a perfect appetizer to make for this year’s holiday party. You may want to make two trays of them, though, because they go fast!

Yep, it’s that time again…another What to Wear with Callie.

It is a busy time of year here at Stephanie Newbold Photography! Stephanie is COMPLETELY booked for 2011 as far as Family Portrait Sessions go, and I know that there are lots of families on the schedule who just might be pondering the ol' "what to wear" question.

Well, first off, congratulations on booking your session!! I know how hard it is to coordinate everyone's schedules and find the time to get your family photos done. The next step is figuring out your family’s wardrobe. You are probably staring into your closet, your husband’s closet, your kids’ closets and wondering, “What the heck are we going to wear?” Before your eyes glaze over and you give up and head to Starbucks, please take a deep breath and finish reading this blog post! As you are thinking about your wardrobe, though, keep a few things in mind…layers, textures, and accessories. Adding a few simple things can take your "I've worn it a hundred times" favorite outfit and make it feel new! Take a look at these fun Fall combinations…

This is such a fun look for any family. And the color pallette works for just about everyone - the warm, rich browns of fall with the pop of pink? How fun! Notice the way the layers are incorporated with a jacket over Dad and Sister’s outfits? And how about the fun color of Mom’stop? The ruffles here and also on Sister's jacket add just the right amount of texture to add that something "extra" to their outfits without going overboard. And those adorable boots? All these bring a special interest to the outfit and will leave you looking polished and put together, without looking and feeling overdressed.

Remember, above all, keep it simple and comfortable. You want the clothes to compliment you…not overpower you. You want to wear something that is flattering to your body type and something that you are comfortable in. If you aren’t comfortable in your clothes, that will come across in the photos. I wanna be a rockstar. And I think I want a mohawk. Okay, well, the 5 inch mohawk probably isn't the look for me, but hello - just look at these adorable rock n' roll cuties!!

This has to be one of my most favorite session ever. I know I've said it a gazillion times, but I love that shooting on location gives me sooooo many options to personalize each client’s photo session and allows me to find the perfect natural backdrop. Seriously, doing family and children's photography sessions in Tucson is so much fun! And I love it when my clients indulge my nuttiness just a little and think out of the box with me regarding location. Location can completely change the mood of the photographs and add an extra special little somethin' somethin'.

Check out this brother and sister duo, Kelly and Rebel! When I first met these two little cuties, I knew without a doubt, they NEEDED a fun and funky urban location. First of all, I have to confess that I love shooting urban photography sessions. They are some of my absolute favorite shoots because they are edgy, fun, and modern. (side note: an urban setting can be perfect for your class of 2012 Tucson senior pictures, too!) Anyway, I was hoping Kelly and Rebel's momma wouldn't run the other way when I said I wanted to shoot this session in an alley in downtown Tucson. But she was all for it, and I just love how the session played out!

And seriously, how can you resist this cuteness ?!? I absolutely adore this brother-sister moment!!

And check out Kelly's mohawk! He’s really rockin’ it! Not many people can pull it off, but he definitely can! I LOVE it!

And this is Kelly's "punk face" :) I think he's got the moody, sulky, teenager face down pat already!

We'll Always Have Our Pictures ~ Tucson Family, Baby, and Children's Photographer

Meet my friend, Jodi...

Isn't she gorgeous?? I just love love love her family – down to the very tip of my toes. From our very first meeting, our very first photography session here in Tucson, we've just kindof clicked. In addition to being my client and my friend, Jodi was my SpokesMama last year, and honestly, she's just about been my biggest cheerleader as my business has grown...always supportive, always postive, always encouraging me, pointing out new opportunities for me. She's always willing to try new props, new locations, new ideas. I have truly loved every family photo session we’ve had, every shared Starbucks coffee, every bit of chit chat.

Jodi and her husband, Kash, came to me almost two years ago for a maternity session. I liked them immediately, and had such fun sharing in their excitement, and capturing such a special time for them. And then along came sweet baby Harry, who was a precious newborn and grew so quickly into a funny, sweet, charming toddler with big blue eyes, dimples and the most engaging grin! Over the past almost two years, I’ve been truly blessed to capture Harry’s journey, and to call Jodi and Kash “friends”. Some of my all time favorite photos capture this family, and they’ve totally captured my heart.

This is such a bittersweet blog post for me today – as much I love sharing these latest photos of Jodi and her sweet family, it makes me a little blue, too. They’re moving away today, on to another adventure. I am so happy, and so excited for them! And I am so thankful to have been able to journal baby Harry’s first 18 months with many fun family sessions that involved lots of laughs, lots of Starbucks, and lots of sweet, beautiful photographs. Jodi was kind enough to squeeze in my request for a last session before they left, and here are a few photos from what was truly more like a play date – a warm, sunny visit with friends.

Pieces of Me ~ Tucson Senior Photographer, Tucson Senior Pictures, Tucson Family Photographer

Do you remember dropping your baby off at Kindergarten? How excited and nervous you both were? How you picked her outfit so carefully, and how you over-packed her lunch box with all of her favorite things because you wanted to be sure she ate SOMEthing? And how when she skipped off to the play ground to meet her new friends, a tiny little piece of your heart skipped off with her? If you’re like me, you cried aaaall the way to work , big ol’ puddles of tears, complete with raccoon mascara eyes and a red, runny nose. Pretty picture, huh?

Well, my baby started high school last year, and that first day of school?? SAME THING. Only she didn’t skip off to the playground, she literally jumped out of the car and ran off to find her friends, with a great big grin as she waved goodbye. But you guessed it – I still boo-hoo’d all the way to work, remembering that shy little kindergartener with the PowerPuff Girls t-shirt.

Kelsey is a sophomore this year – a 4.0 student at University High School (one of the top 20 college prep high schools in the country). She’s a busy girl, keeping up with homework in several AP classes (yeah, AP Chemistry starts at 7:00 a.m.), and swimming for both her high school team and her club team (Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics). Our schedules are so busy these days, it’s amazing that we can all sit down to dinner together every night (but we do). In fact, life is so busy that I just realized that I pretty much have zero pictures of Kelsey or her brother, Chase. So I vowed to rectify that this year (hello, it’s September already!!!), and when the planets aligned so that we both had an hour or so free, I grabbed the camera and we headed out.

And as luck would have it, 10 minutes after we got to our location, big, fat, black storm clouds rolled in and it started sprinkling. The clouds were so dark that it all but ended our natural light, and we only managed to get a few shots. But I love what we did manage to get – a couple of super cute pictures of my grown-up girl, and about 30 minutes of time just for the two of us.

PS – styling Kelsey’s mini session was kind of fun, and a bit of a challenge. See, she’s a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops kinda girl – always has been. But she wanted to “step it up a notch” (her words) but still look like herself. I love what we came up with. It’s super cute and totally Kelsey! And we didn’t spend a gazillion dollars! Kelsey already had the denim skirt in her closet and she borrowed the necklace from me. The rest we picked up at Old Navy and Forever 21.

Ever have a session that you go home giddy about? Not necessarily because you have amazing images that will land you on the cover of a magazine (hello, still waiting for that ship to come in), but because it just felt good? I absolutely LOVED this fun mini session with fabulous Stefani. Stefani’s a beautiful young lady, and niece to my friends Andrea and Karrie. Just when I thought I’d met all the gorgeous girls in the Garzelloni family, Karrie introduced me to her niece Stefani. Stef is a cheerleader at Fickett Middle School and she is just as pretty on the inside as she is on the outside.

Stefani was our model for my camera basics mentor session with Karrie, and she was a complete natural in front of the camera! She was oh so patient as I asked her to tilt her head, cross her feet, relax her arm, smile, don’t smile, relax, sit up straight, lean in, lean back… and hold that pose while I worked with Karrie on her camera settings, and explaining the whats and whys of what we were doing. Stef's sweet, quiet style was such a perfect fit for a mentor session - and her self confidence was awesome! I love love love working with young ladies who aren't afraid of being in front of the camera.

I also love teaching camera basics - spending one-on-one time with my clients to show them the ins and outs of their cameras, how take control of their settings, and ultimately how to be a Mamarazzi Extraordinaire. So many times, I have the privilege of showing them how to use their beautiful expensive cameras for the very first time, and to see that spark ignite when they realize they can create great, everyday, photos of their kids! How amazing is that? AND, selfish moment here - I get to take pictures of gorgeous people at the same time. It really doesn’t get much better!

I loved every minute of photographing Stefani – and I think I can now say that I’ve photographed all of those stunning Garzelloni girls – unless you have another stashed away, Karrie and Andrea??

Sweet Little Miss Claire ~ Tucson Family Photographer, Oro Valley Photographer, Tucson Child Photographer

As a family photographer, I naturally spend my time around kids. Alot of kids. Photographing kids is always so unpredictable, which is just one of the many reasons I LOVE my job. There is never a dull moment and they keep me on my toes. Some of my kiddos are sassy, some are silly and some have biiiig personalities for little people. Occasionallly, some of my little clients get a case of the grumps for our photo session, and hey, I totally get it. Not gonna lie...I don't love having my photo taken ;)

Meet little miss Claire. Claire just turned one and was absolutely the happiest baby ever! She was all giggles and grins during our session, clapping and waving. She had me completely smitten from click number one, and managed to capture the hearts of passers-by.“What an adorable baby” seemed to be the comment of the day, and I couldn’t agree more! I can’t even count the number of people who stopped to smile and wave at Claire during our session. In fact, on a couple of occasions, I shamelessly enlisted their help, asking them to stand just over my shoulder and wave at Claire, so I could draw her attention in my direction.

David and Emily (better known as Claire’s Mommy and Daddy) were hoping for a location with some local Tucson color for their session, as well as little bit of nice green grass for their peanut to crawl on. They were hoping to find a spot where I could, as Emily put it, "capture the sweet family moments with their girl". Luckily, one of my favorite locations provides just that, and I love how we managed to combine both in one session.

It was super overcast and dark, and sooo muggy and sticky outside (seriously, can we please be DONE with the heat?!?), but you’d never guess by the beautiful, bright smiles we captured. This sweet family was such a joy to work with - I just love photographing happy people!

We had a nice stroll downtown, played in the cool grass, and even managed to capture a shot just as sweet Miss Claire toddled a step or two on her own for the first time. YAY! I love being able to capture these little milestones!

Nope, she’s not your average high school senior…in fact, she’s not really a high school senior at all! Sssssh...she’s 25, and holy cow, she COULD pass for a high school senior, couldn’t she?!

Meet Jessica – my knight in shining armor who came to my photographic rescue!

See, I had a mentor session scheduled and my mentee (hi, Joel!) wanted to spend the shoot & share part of our session photographing a couple or a high school senior. I had a fabulous couple lined up but Traci & Michael had a bit of an emergency and couldn’t make it (everything is totally o.k., though, thank goodness!). I put out a request on my Facebook page for a high school senior girl or guy at the very last minute, and thank goodness Jessica, Miss Awesome-Sauce herself, came to my rescue!

Though she’s not a high school senior, she’s young and fabulous, and was totally game to help us re-enact a senior session, including Jessica’s styled wardrobe and meeting us at our funky, grungy, hip urban location.

Thanks to Jessica, we were able to show Joel how we would shoot a senior session, from location choice to wardrobe ideas to posing. We were able to pull together a variety of looks and styles from just a couple of wardrobe changes and using different aspects of our single location.

We shot well past sundown, and pretty much pushed the limits of our natural light shooting. But we had a great time, and Jessica was amazing – she braved the hot, muggy, Tucson afternoon (seriously, HER eyebrows weren’t melting off!), honking trains (yes, they passed us by two or three times, honking every.single.time.)

Jess – thank you so so so much for saving the day! You totally rocked this session! Even if you aren’t a high school senior ;)

It's over. At long last, no more agonizing over what to wear for your portrait session!

We are super excited to introduce you to Allie Ward, the newest member of our team. Allie is our high school senior, teen, and family portrait session what-to-wear guru and session stylist. She's our super fashionista and all around nice girl. She's one of my very favorite people, and I know you're going to love her too! She's a junior at St. Gregory School here in Tucson, has a passion for photography and fashion, and is nice to her little brother and sister :) Oh, and she assisted me last fall while I shot a wedding here in Tucson. Cool, huh?

Freckles! ~ Tucson Child Photographer, Oro Valley Photographer, Tucson Family Photography

One of the things I love most about hosting workshops and one-on-one sessions is the amazing models I get to photograph. Not only do I get to photograph my workshop models AT the workshop, but then I to do a little mini-session with them after the fact. Psssst - they think it's a "thank you" to them for helping with the workshop, but really, it is aaaall about me wanting to photograph them again! :)

I met little Kiara (better known by her perfectly fitting nickname, Kiki) at my workshop this spring. I had put out a “casting” call on my Facebook page for a red-haired child model and my friend Andrea, messaged me that she had another friend whose daughter fit the bill. Kiara's mom contacted me with a photo of Kiki, and I was instantly smitten!

The first time I met, Kiki, she was up a tree. Yep, she had climbed up into the trees at the site of our workshop and posed herself so beautifully! A tomboy after my heart for sure…with just enough princess sass to balance it out. Kiki FINALlY decided she'd make eye contact with the camera, OCCASIONALLY, and we got some cute shots. This girl is a little firecracker!

I met Kiki and her mom at Trail Dust Town, which is one of my absolute favorite places to shoot but proves very distracting for little ones:)

Kiki picked out her own outfit for our shoot. If you look carefully you'll see the jewels/rhinestones on the waistband of her skirt. So fitting! She even came up with some of her very own poses, like the one below (which is straight out of the camera, no editing, 'cause I wanted to show you this little cupcake in her element!)

This one was my suggestion. She said she liked hers better :)

I am pretty partial to brown eyed girls - add red hair and freckles, and I'm head over heels.   I had such a fun time at our session together… despite the hot muggy gross weather (that’s Tucson in monsoon season for you!)...and the bugs! Did I mention how much I HATE bugs?! Eww! Those miserable little gnats that buzz around everywhere?? BLECH!

Even with all of that, we had so much fun! And boy did we laugh - especially when Kiara was telling me about her boyrfriend...yes, a REAL boyfriend, she says!

I’m one smitten kitten over here -  is this really my job? I love ALL my models…ALL my clients… Wow, I’m one lucky girl!

Sweet Baby Braydon ~ Tucson Baby Photographer, Tucson Family Photographer, Tucson Newborn Photographer

I photograph families. I photograph big kids. I photograph little kids and occasionally, I photograph newborns. Oh, the little toes. The tiny fingers. The way they curl up into an itty bitty little ball when they sleep. Can I just tell you how much I LOVE newborns?? They are so precious and I’m always so humbled and honored to capture their first moments. I’m always so happy to be able to preserve that time because they don’t stay that small forever.

Nick and Lindsay welcomed little baby Braydon Asher into the world on July 9th. Sweet Braydon is the first baby for this gorgeous couple! And how amazing does Lindsay look?? You'd never guess she just had a baby!

Little Braydon loved his snuggles from his mommy and daddy. During our session he was happiest when his mommy or daddy was holding him (heck, who wouldn't be?). In fact, Nick and Lindsay spent baby's first week home trying to adjust to the new baby schedule. For the first several days, Braydon would only sleep when mom or dad was holding him, so Nick and Lindsay took turns waking with Braydon so the other could catch some much needed sleep.

Remember how I was just telling you about needing to always expect the unexpected and how unpredictable kids can be sometimes? Well, newborns are no different. In fact, newborn sessions can be a whole lot of work - especially when you're trying to get those amazing poses like the one with baby's chin resting on his hands, or curled up snoozing so sweetly. You sometimes hear photographers say things like "baby gave us a work out but we won in the end", or "5 hours later, we got this amazing pose". I guess I kind of feel like if I'm exhausted and completely worn out, how does that sweet little baby feel?? I definitely am not into creating more stress during baby's first week home, so we actually did Mr. Braydon's newborn session in two parts because he just wasn't too crazy about being on camera :)

For a little guy, he was very opinionated…especially about his wardrobe. He had no interest in my cute knits hats and swaddling blankets, and preferred to be au naturale ;) He also preferred to be wide awake, taking in every little thing around him. He was just precious, with his beautiful eyes wide and watching us!

While I love those precious newborn posed shots, I also love being able to capture the truly tender moments of those first few days of a new family bonding. I love these natural, genuine images - I think these are the moments mommies want to remember always...

Little Blondies! ~ Tucson Children's Photographer, Tucson Family Photographer, Oro Valley Family Photographer

Being a family photographer who shoots on location, I've learned to always expect the unexpected (remember the sprinkler incident a few months back? mmmhhmmm.) When I plan my sessions with my clients, we choose a location that is usually public property, which is sometimes kind of a roll of the dice. Though I do my best to check calendars, reservations, etc, you just never know what you're going to find until you reach the location on the day of the shoot. I always like to arrive a bit early, to get my gear ready and just kindof visualize the shoot a little bit. Oh, and to make sure to stake my claim in case other 'togs like my location too :)

So, when it came time to meet Amarie and Chris for their family session, my location had already been snagged by another photographer -- a wedding photographer! Yep - there was a wedding going on at our location. I was pretty sure the bride and groom didn't want us in the background of their wedding photos, so we quickly regrouped and relocated to a park nearby.

Once we finally got the location situation worked out, it was all fun! And I mean FUN. I LOVE this family: Chris, Amarie, Kate, Leah, baby Sophie.

Love. Love. LOVE all those blonde beauties…including momma, who is a work friend from my “day job”. I had the honor of doing sweet little Sophie’s newborn photos a few months back, and it was so much fun to see the sweet little baby she is now. She totally loves her sisters and they obviously adore her, too.

The girls were amazing and so much fun - dancing, twirling, laughing and giggling -- exactly how sisters should be! They brought along their treasures: funky hats they'd purchased earlier at a thrift store. Random Stephanie Fact: I love thrift store finds - when I was a little girl, my grandma and I used to spend hours bargain hunting together! Best. memories. ever.!

Oooh, and look closely at Miss Kate...do you see that precious sprinkling of freckles?? **swoon**

And here's one of my favorites, even though we're missing baby Sophie (she's taking a break from all of our silliness). How many families would do a yoga pose for you? I mean, really? I don't even think I could balance if I tried! This family is simply awesome!

Oh, and things always work out the way they're supposed to... our change of location? Perfect! I found a new spot, and the yummy summer sunlight here? Delish!!!

Another What to Wear installment from Callie...

Fall is just around the corner. Even though we don’t really have autumn per se here in Tucson, it is still my favorite time of year. I think I love this time of year here in Tucson because it starts cooling off and we can actually go outside again. My poor boys are sooo restless. It is funny coming from the Northwest how we get cabin fever down here at the end of the summer…instead of the end of winter like in Montana.

Another reason I love when it starts cooling off is that for a few short months I can wear my “winter gear” again. There is something so wonderful about being all snuggled up in a sweater with a hot cup of coffee. I can’t wait to pull out the sweaters and this year, I am definitely due for a cute new pair of boots! Hmmm…I wonder if I can convince my husband I need some new sweaters too?

Fall photo sessions are super fun because it is even easier to play with layers in your wardrobe. During the summer here in southern Arizona, it is harder because it is so darn hot. The last thing you want to do is put on more clothes. However, once it starts cooling off a bit, you can start layering jackets and sweaters over your adorable new shirt!

I LOVE this ensemble of clothes! It is very fitting for Tucson with the boys all wearing shorts. This is definitely a look our family would all be comfortable wearing. Notice the way the clothes all coordinate together? No one person is “matching” the others. There is a play on blues and khakis with a pop of purple. Amazing! I’m ready to go shopping. How about you?

Little Bit of Heaven ~ Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies [Tucson Photographers, Photographers in Tucson, Tucson Favorites]

Callie here. Happy Friday! It has been awhile since I have gotten on here and shared with you the latest and greatest of what I’ve been doing behind the scenes. Stephanie and I have been working on a lot of new improvements to the business and we are both very excited to reveal some of the changes to you soon. The biggest thing I have been working on recently (and as Stephanie has been bragging up on Facebook) is a new Client Site. It is going to be a great place of resources for you, and totally private.

As a client of Stephanie Newbold Photography, we want you to feel special and loved…because you are! While I haven’t personally met many of you, I feel like you are part of my family after spending hours working on different aspects of your session. When Stephanie says she has the best clients in the world, she isn’t lying! I agree. You are all amazing and it has been such a privilege for me to work, alongside Stephanie, with each of you. Thank you so much for trusting not only Stephanie, but me as well, with these special memories. It truly is an honor.

The past few months have been crazy in my life, as well as Stephanie’s. I think, as women, we are always trying to do everything for everyone else and losing ourselves in the midst of the chaos. Unfortunately, what comes with all of that is that we become overworked, overwhelmed, and tired. So in honor of all you women who just need a little break and a little bit of indulgence, here is the perfect recipe for you…your family will enjoy it too. Well,that is if you share with them!

In one of my previous “recipe” posts, I promised a chocolaty treat for all of you chocoholics out there. So here you go. The ultimate comfort food. What could be better than brownies and chocolate chip cookie dough? Okay, top it with vanilla ice cream and you quite possibly will be in heaven! Oh and if anyone asks, it is completely calorie free…wink, wink. Enjoy!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies

Yield: 32 brownies

Prep Time: 30 min + cooling time

Cook Time: 25 min

Ingredients:

BROWNIE*:
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped
1 cup butter, at room temperature
2 cups light brown sugar, packed
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour

COOKIE DOUGH (EGG FREE!):
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup granulated white sugar
3 Tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips
1/2 cup semisweet chips + 1 teaspoon shortening for drizzle, optional

Directions:

1. Prepare the brownies: Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a 9x13-inch pan with nonstick spray. In a medium glass bowl, melt chocolate in the microwave in short bursts of 30 seconds; stir after each burst and remove from microwave when melted and smooth. Set aside to cool slightly. In a large mixing bowl, mix butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer. Beat in eggs and vanilla extract. Mix in melted chocolate. Blend in flour and mix just until combined (don't over-mix). Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake 25 to 35 minutes. Watch closely and remove from oven when toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.

2. Prepare the cookie dough: In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to combine butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Mix in milk and vanilla. Mix in flour just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.

3. Spread cookie dough over the cooled brownies. Refrigerate until the dough is quite firm. It's okay to speed up the process and place it in the freezer too. The firmer the dough, the easier it will be to cut into neat squares. Use a sharp knife to cut the brownies. You may need to wipe the knife off with a paper towel in between cuts since the fudgy brownies and cookie dough will tend to stick to the knife a bit. These brownies are best to serve placed inside cupcake papers and served with a fork.

4. If you'd like to add chocolate drizzle on top, melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of shortening in the microwave; stir until smooth. Scoop the melted chocolate into a zip baggie and snip off the corner. Squeeze the bag to drizzle the chocolate on top of each brownie. Sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top, if desired.

*Psssst - You could easily substitute the homemade brownie portion of the recipe with brownies made from a box. I won’t tell! :)

A Great Way to Learn to Master Your Camera (and have fun doing it!) ~ [Tucson Photography Workshops, Tucson Senior Portraits, Oro Valley Portrait Photographer, Tucson Family Photographer]

Earlier this month…or was it last month? Holy cow, life has been such a whirlwind the past few months that it sometimes blurs together. Anyway, a few weeks ago, I had a chance to do two different one-on-one mentor sessions with two really great newbie photographers (waving hi to Debbie and Esperanza!). What is a mentor session you ask? Basically, it's like a mini workshop, only with just you and me and our cameras. You get me and my expertise for two hours -- we can cover anything you'd like, from camera basics, to natural light, composition, business basics, etc -- and then we'll do a mini photo shoot so you can get hands-on experience and practice what you've learned. The awesome thing about a mentor session is that it's completely tailored to your specifics needs. The sky is the limit!

As much as I love hosting workshops, I think I love the one on one sessions juuuuuust a smidge more. It's so exciting to work one on one, and to see the light bulb go off when things just click (pun intended!). And the frosting on this cupcake? The mini session/model shoots - lots of fun, and no stress :)

When Debbie and I met for her session, we had a complete blast! After all the tech talk, we headed downtown for the photo shoot part of our session. Debbie has a love for all things architectural, so we picked an area with some fun, Tucson flavor. And to mix things up a bit, our models were a couple of amazing teenaged guys.
Psssst - I don't have many young men in my portfolio, so when Matt and Alex volunteered (or, should I say, when their moms volunteered them), I was aaaall over it!

Both of these heartbreakers swim for Tucson Ford Dealer's Aquatics and are pretty much superstars! I wouldn't be surprised to see either (or both) of them in the Olympics some day. Yep, they are THAT good! Not only are they both amazing athletes, but they are also smart and all around nice people. They are pretty much the real deal, perfect package! Moms - you won't even have to lock up your daughters, they're THAT nice ;) In fact - we had such a great time, that at the end of our session, Debbie 'fessed up that she just might enjoy photographing people, too!

Here's a few more of Matt. You can hardly even see his goggle tan (swimmer's curse!). Swim Fan note: Matt’s mom, Kim, is also a pretty amazing lady. She is pretty much the super hero team mom!

What about this face? Recognize him? Remember the love letter I wrote about my friend Crissy Perham? This is her son, Alex Leighton - 2010 Salpointe High School Swimming All-Star!

I really enjoyed photographing these two! It is so much fun photographing teen guys, and especially guys I mainly see on the pool deck. Thanks again, Matt and Alex!

Theeeeyyyy're heeeeere! Family photo holiday mini sessions!! Woot woot!! I know, I know - you're thinking, "Holidays? Are you kidding me? It's August. It's 100+ degrees outside, for crying out loud! Woman, are you crazy?" Nope, not kidding, and well, (blush) yeeeaaaah, maybe a little on the crazy side.

But believe it or not, the holidays ARE just around the corner. They'll be here before we know it, and honestly, I can't wait! I'm truly not one of those Christmas in July people ('cause it's August now, doncha know), but it IS time to start thinking about at least scheduling your family photos. So...to help get you in the mood (HOLIDAY MOOD people!), we're offering a fun (but very limited) holiday mini session portrait special. Check it out!

Holiday minis are the PERFECT way to get those family pictures taken care of for your holiday cards! They are quick. They are easy. You can bring the dog. And they'll be met with much less resistance from your husband and teenagers than a regular full portrait session. Best of all, no one has to say "CHEESE", or wear matching holiday sweaters.

I’m Just a Girl Who Can’t Say “No” [Tucson Photographer, Children's Photographer in Tucson, Tucson Family Photographer]

Got your attention didn’t I?

I’m not THAT kind of girl (wink wink) but well, I’m pretty much a “yes man”. It makes my heart happy to make other people happy. Giving feels good. Really good. Where is this going, you ask?

Let me first start by saying how truly blessed I am. You probably hear people say that all the time. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve heard every photographer I know say it, because we really do have the best job in the world. Every tiny newborn I’ve held, every little face, every giggle, every grin, every pout I’ve been privileged to capture...every senior, every family, every couple, and every furry friend I’ve photographed has left a footprint on my heart. And I’ve left a little piece of my heart in every photograph I’ve made.

I am still a bit shell shocked at how much my labor of love has just blossomed over the last 18 months into a fully scheduled, 100mph with my hair on fire, full-on, real photography business. Yahooo! My life has been such a whirlwind of crazy busy-ness. And because I love my job, and my clients, so much, I have a very hard time NOT accepting bookings. I know, tough problem to have, right? I’m not gonna lie – success feels good.

But being overwhelmed doesn’t. Even though my goal for 2011 was to not over-commit myself, I find myself trying to juggle way too many things. I have such a hard time saying “no” - even when my plate is full. And it IS full. Those of you who know me well know that in addition to running my photography business, I am a wife, step-mom to two of the most amazing (and busy) young people on the planet, a volunteer photographer for Operation: Love ReUnited and Inspiration through Art, and a full time working professional employed by a major defense contractor. I’m also a daughter, sister and friend.

Photography sessions are so much fun! But it’s not over after the shutter clicks and the session’s finished. In fact, that’s just the beginning of the whole process. There’s the editing, sneak peek posting, gallery publishing, order processing, print delivering, blog publishing, website maintaining, business taxes preparing, marketing, portfolio building, technical skills developing, packaging designing, and so much more. And for me, all of this has to be done after 5pm and on weekends.

I adore my clients more than words can say. I am so incredibly honored that people actually choose ME to capture those moments they want to freeze in time with a photograph. My heart is full knowing they trust me with their family treasures. I unequivocally, without a doubt, 110% love love love my job.

Which leads me to the whole point of this e-mail. I can’t believe it’s almost August. More than ½ the year is over, and I’ve just realized how much I’ve missed: school performances, swim meets, family trips, time with my grandparents, walking my dogs, play dates with my gal pals, and even cleaning my own house (yes, I actually miss that.) When my business started, I worked it in around my family time. But now, I find myself working my family in around my photography business which is getting busier and busier. My business is blooming and my family is, well, wilting. And that doesn’t feel so good. But hey, the best thing about being my own boss is that I make the rules :) And I can change things up a bit.

So, what does this all mean to you?

I’ve spent a lot of time soul searching and come to the realization that I really need to do better, for my family, my clients and my friends. And in order to do better, I need to do less. I’ve revamped my business model and business processes/policies a bit to help me streamline things and focus on the things are important to me, in both my business and personal life. You know, a little less juggling and a little more balance.

Oh, I’ll still be booking sessions. Let’s face it: I don’t think my life would be complete without photography, and all of the amazing people I meet through my camera. But I’m definitely going to cut back. I want to give each of my clients the very best I can give them, which is more of my time and more of my focus. I want each client to have the best experience with me -- after all, if we're capturing memories, shouldn't we be making them too? I want all of the little details to be perfect, and I want to savor the entire process. In order to do this, I’ll be offering a very limited number of sessions each month. Once those spots are filled, that’s all I will book. I wish I could say "yes" to every booking request I get, but the reality is that I can’t. I just can’t.

I hope you understand. I hope you know that you are still so very important and that I truly treasure your business -- outside of my family, there's just about nothing I love more than our sessions, and photographing your loved ones.

Eva & Enzo [Tucson Children's Photographer, Tucson Family Photographer]

In all seriousness, it was firecracker hot (113!) the day gorgeous Karrie and her sweet littles, Eva and Enzo, had their session. The scene from the Wizard of Oz kept flashing through my mind. You know the one, where the Wicked Witch of the West is making a big hot mess of a pudddle, crying, “I’m melting! I’m melting!” ? Yep, it was THAT hot!

In fact, it was so hot that sweet Eva kept asking if she could put her feet in the "hot tub"?? I was pretty sure there wasn't a hot tub at our location. Until I turned around to catch Eva splashing in the impromptu "hot tub". Yeah…only in Tucson!

Miss Eva was a little firecracker, which was actually pretty fitting considering it was almost the Fourth of July. Check out her cuteness in all her patriotic glory! How cute is that dress?!?

This little cutie has a connection to another one of my clients! Do you remember me introducing you to my fabulous hairstylist, Andrea, and her gorgeous family? Eva is Andrea’s niece! Andrea’s sister-in-law, Karrie, contacted me awhile back about taking photographs of her with her darling Eva and handsome little Enzo to send to their daddy who is currently deployed overseas serving our country.

Karrie and the kids arrived sporting red, white, and blue clothes in support of their Daddy and carrying homemade signs! How cute! Getting two itty bitties to sit still and hold signs up proved to be a bit challenging, but once we got the words in the right order, we managed to snap a quick shot.

Despite the stifling heat and a few extra wiggles, we were able to capture some great shots to send to their daddy. I love how this big sister is hugging little Enzo...so sweet.

Karrie, thank you so much for braving the heat and big dead bugs (eeeiiiiwww!!!!). I think my eyebrows were melting off, and you STILL looked fabulous!!

Crissy + Charlie = Awesome [Tucson Family Photographer, Tucson Family Pictures, Tucson Photographer]

Okay, so, I have to start off by telling you that I’ve started and stopped writing this blog post about 11 times. I've written and published so many blog posts about my beautiful clients and their family portraits. It’s not that I am at a loss for words (c’mon, you all know I’m a chatterbox), but I think it’s that I can’t seem to find the RIGHT words to talk about this amazing family. Everything I’ve written so far has sounded pretty much like a love letter – you know, effusive, sappy, giddy and love struck? I’ve come to the realization that I guess I just really do feel that way about these people. So here goes anyway…

One of the things that amazes me is how the little threads of our lives weave this amazing tapestry of seemingly random patterns – you know, that whole 6 degrees of separation thing? When my kids started swimming at Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics, I was excited to learn that Chase’s coach was an Olympic gold and silver medalist.

[Confession time: I am a total swim geek. I spent my youth and college years eating, sleeping and breathing competitive swimming. As a kid, other girls were diggin’ Shaun Cassidy and I had posters of Rowdy Gaines on my wall. Even now, the smell of chlorine still gives me butterflies in my stomach!]

I almost needed a private moment when I learned Chase’s coach was none other than Crissy Ahmann Perham (formerly Crissy Ahmann Leighton). I know, right??!!?? As a former swimmer myself, Crissy was someone I knew of and admired. We had competed early on in some of the same swimming circles, and I had continued to follow her swimming career. Go ahead, take a minute and Google her. There. See what I mean? A-mazing.

Anyway, Crissy is one of my very favorite people, for so many reasons not related to my love of swimming. I am so thankful to call her my friend. I am head over heels for her family, and when she contacted me about doing some family photos, I was so touched, and so honored. Crissy’s guys– Charlie, Alex, and Ryan - are each incredible people, and when you put them all together, wrapped up in a beautiful family, well…this is what you get:

So, yeah…I guess this was pretty much a love letter. But in the end, love’s what makes the world go ‘round, right??

Family Photo Time - What Do We Wear? [Tucson Family Photographer, Oro Valley Family Photographer, Sahuarita Family Photographer]

There has been some discussion lately within the photography community about whether or not photographers should recommend their clients go out and buy an entirely new wardrobe for their family photo sessions. My answer? It is completely up to you. This is your photo shoot and I want you to feel comfortable with what you are wearing!

But let’s be honest here, friends. Your family photo session is a big deal, and the very first question you’re asking yourself (and me), after “where do we shoot?”, is “what do we wear?”.

Most people don’t dig around in their closet and pull out a pair of yoga pants and a tank top because their most important thought is to be comfortable. I mean, even when it's time for your little one's school pictures, you pay a little extra attention to what you dress them in, right??

At picture time, people want to look their very best…or they want a particular “look” to their session, so they do go out and buy brand new outfits for their family members. But there’s no rule set in stone that says you have to. This is your photo session…do what feels right to you. I have some clients who choose to dress their cutie in the child’s favorite outfit (you know the one...the one you have to peel off your child to be able to wash it) because it is indicative of who their child at this particular moment in time. And I have some clients who add just a new piece of fun jewelry, or a hat from the thrift store, because it adds just that extra touch they’re looking for.

When I write about “What to Wear,” suggestions, it isn’t to tell you to go out and buy those particular outfits, or even go out and buy any new outfit. It’s simply to help you get creative and pull your own look together – to think outside the box and look within your own closet. They are just ideas to get you to see how layers, textures, and accessories can really make a world of difference in your family’s pictures.

With that being said, check out this fun collection of outfits:

Notice the simplicity of the collection? Nothing is over the top. Nothing is matchy matchy.

What I love about this collection is that the items (or similar items) can be purchased just about anywhere – Old Navy, Gap Kids, even Target. I’ve actually seen some adorable little sundresses for super cheap at the Walmart! Add a cute hair bow or hat, and you’re all set.

Looking good doesn’t have to be expensive! I put these suggestions out there to help you feel good, look good, and keep your bank account healthy!

"What inspires you?" - I'm asked that question alot. What inspires me (photographically speaking)? Really wanna know? No huge secret here - EVERYthing inspires me. Honestly. A little one's lollipop sticky face. Sunshine making stars on the water at the lake. The way wine bottles are lined up on a shelf, perfectly symmetrical (OCD much?!). Meet Miss Awesomeness herself, Amanda Robinson. She's a teen photographer here in Tucson, and well, I could tell you all about her, but I'll let her do that. I could talk her up as all kinds of wonderful, 'cause she is, but I’ll let you see that for yourself. I met Amanda in kindof a random sort of way, and I totally dig her – you will too!

Amanda: Ten Random Facts About Moi

1. Photography is my obsession and my passion and the cause of my sleep deprivation. I live for the words "243 photos successfully imported" and my shutter finger starts to tingle if I go more than a week or two without photographing this beautiful world.

2. I’ll be a junior at University High School this year. Go Penguins!

3. If I’m by myself, I always have music on. I usually sing along pretty loudly, too.

4. The only thing I’m really addicted to is ChapStick. ‘Cause really. Apply. Rub. Enjoy the smooth. Repeat. How great is that?

5. My iPhone and my Canon are like my children. And they tend to fight for my attention. Text message! Look at that gorgeous flower! Facebook notification! Sunset! My camera usually wins.

6. Math is my favorite/best subject. But history should be called hizzztory. Lot’s of ZZZs, if you catch my drift.

7. I love Starbucks, but I don’t like coffee. It smells delicious, tastes kinda funny. I’m all for the sugar-filled frapps and iced tea lemonades. And those mini donuts. Are those awesome or what?

8. My friends and family are the absolute best things in my life. I love them all to pieces.

9. I don’t regret anything. No, seriously. Nothing at all. Because everything that I’ve ever done has gotten me to exactly where I am right now, and I really like where I am right now.

10. I don’t believe in labels. Punk, Goth, Prep, what does it all mean?! I’m just me, and you’re just you. And that’s just fine, my friend.

Stephanie: Tell me a little bit about your awesomeness.

Amanda: Well it all started with a family trip to San Diego in the fall of 2009. I took my dad’s DSLR for a spin and I liked it. A lot. My parents, generous beings that they are, gave me my very own Canon for Christmas that year and my hobby exploded. In the last 18ish months I have: gotten advice from a few professional photographers that I am fortunate enough to know, attended a summer photography workshop, started my own website, and taken more than 7,000 pictures. I’m not sure where it’ll go from here, but it don’t matter, no not one bit. Because it’s just what I love to do. And that’s all it needs to be.
